The Lincoln and Douglas collaborative

the very story of Abraham Lincoln. History calls him the great emancipator and while the moniker has some teeth, the truth was much more collaborative. Kind of like Jamie Lee Curits’s Oscar acceptance speech on Sunday night.

In January of 1864, Lincoln feared the war and the Union was lost. He consulted with Frederick Douglas and took the advice he was given that day which in part was to let the Black soldiers help in a more substantial way. Still today, American history talks about Lincoln saving the Union. It’s much more accurate to say that the Black soldiers, most formerly enslaved, came to the Union army’s rescue. Without them, chattel slavery may still be alive and well in America.
